How to Prepare Your Home for Popcorn Ceiling Removal

A little prep goes a long way toward a smooth job.

Here's what you can do to make the process go smoothly before the crew arrives:

  1. Clear the room. Remove furniture, rugs, wall art, and anything on shelves. The more you can clear out, the easier it is to protect what remains and the faster the job goes.
  2. Remove ceiling fans and light fixtures if possible. We can work around them, but removal makes the job cleaner. Make sure the power is off at the breaker.
  3. Give us good access. Make sure we can get to the rooms without navigating around clutter in hallways or on stairs.
  4. Point out anything unusual on the ceiling. Water stains, soft spots, or areas that look different from the rest are worth flagging before we start so we can assess them first.
  5. Plan for some noise and wet work. Wet scraping is messy. We contain it as much as possible, but there will be some dust and debris during the process.

We handle most of the prep on our end — plastic sheeting, furniture covers, HVAC protection — but the more cleared out the space is, the better the end result.
